New Players

For primary school players, our biggest catchment is Floreat Park Primary. Given this, we have players in our club from many different schools.

Quite often, a Primary School will have their own teams, but players are left to find another club for year 7 onwards.

We welcome new players from all schools, including anyone who wishes to change clubs.

What is the process for new players?

Unlike other larger clubs, we do not run trials to determine if you are eligible to be invited to play for us. Our goal is to place everyone in a team that suits their ability and preferred playing position. This can get tricky when we have to put the teams together, as we aim for teams of 9 players. Sometimes we have to cut-off registration when we have hit the right number and other times we need to recruit to help fill the teams.

We do need to run a grading process, whereby we have independent graders observe the players in a series of short games. We play them in their nominated positions as per the Expression of Interest (EOI) form, rate the players and make notes.

You can learn more about FFNC grading here.

To participate in grading, the player must be registered via our EOI form and have paid a deposit. The deposit secures a place in our club.

The grading process will run over 2 or 3 different sessions, depending on how confident we are with the team placements. The sessions are typically run during mid to late November. Sometimes the last grading session is held in early February.

Once teams have been established, the players will be invited to formally register with the club and pay the balance of the playing fees.
